If I could write like one modern author... other than Angie Smith and her lovely devotional Mended... my choice would be Ann Voskamp.
I actually have not read her other book One Thousand Gifts yet, (well, I read the first chapter which is available on her website), but I have heard a lot about it. So when I was asked to review Voskamp's One Thousand Gifts Devotional: Reflections on Finding Everyday Graces, I was interested to check it out.
It's a devotional book that takes readers through simple graces of daily life. Each day's devotional tells a story (I love devotionals that start out anecdotal, because I remember them more, and I see how Scripture applies to everyday modern life!).
As Voskamp relates her life stories, she weaves in thoughts, prayers, scriptures that put the vignette into a spiritual perspective.
I noticed one devotional is excerpted from the first chapter of her other book. I am wondering if many portions of this devotional are also excerpts? (See, now I have to read the first book!).
There are sixty devotionals, and I have been enjoying each one! It's a great book to read alone or with a prayer group.
One Thousand Gifts Devotional actually JUST went on sale today, so you can now check it out!! It's just $14.99 and would make a lovely Christmas gift for someone on your list! Available @amazon @b&n @Christianbook.com.
