Yes, I use binkies. Pacis. Whatever you call them.
I know some people think they are not breastfeeding friendly, but... when you have a crying baby who does not want to nurse... you start trying anything.
We let our first son use a pacifier around a few days old. He did not get "nipple confusion" and it gave me a break from the constant fussing (he was borderline colicky, and didn't nurse for comfort).
Now... breaking our son of the binky two years later was an entirely different issue - let's not go there, except to say I should've probably weaned him off it earlier (and he was ONLY using it to sleep!).
Anywho... we will most likely use binkies again with our next child (just 6 more weeks!).
I've got these cute soft Cherry Pacifiers from NUBY I'll use - they are actually shaped to move like the mother's breast, so hopefully will reduce any potential nipple confusion (again, not that I ever experienced any). Also, they have patented nubs to massage baby's gums for comfort!
I was relieved to see when I let my son play with them, he did not even know what they were called (just 4-5 months ago, we had a month of melt-downs from taking away his binky!). He knew to put them in his mouth, but he didn't really care about them. PHEW! I guess he really IS broken of the binky!
Also, I have the NUBY Pacifier Cradle to store the pacifiers in, keeping them from getting dirty. It can fit two pacifiers at once (or 1 pacifier and a NUBY Pacifinder). I thought it was a little difficult to open, although my husband said it was easy for him, so maybe I'm just mechanically challenged! I like having a safe spot to stash the binky so it won't get dirty floating around the diaper bag! And it comes with that nifty flexi-handle to "clip" onto strollers or bags!
NUBY Cherry Pacifiers retail for $7.99 per two pack, and the Paci-Cradle for $3.49 each.
Did your baby use a binky? How old were they when they gave it up?
