I have the fondest memories of playing dress up with my neighborhood friends. My best friend's mom kept a barrel full of old prom dresses, hoop skirts, and petticoats to play with. We'd get all dolled up and play "Fine Ladies of the Country." We'd affect Southern accents (yeah, Yankee kids) and pretend to be Scarlett O'Hara or another famous lady of yore.
Dress up took us worlds and miles away from our sleepy country town. And it stretched our imaginations too. Since I'm not one for TV for kids, I strongly encourage pretend play like dress up, acting, and the like.
Today's kids have it so much better, with places like the Costume Super Center that offers an abundance of adult and kids costumes. You'll find well-known cartoon characters like Alice in Wonderland, Smurfette, Batman, Superman.... They also carry clown, fairytale, military themed costumes.
I received this cute Cowgirl Kids Costume for review. It was perfect timing, because I'm working with our church's Wednesday night kids' group which has a Western theme. This costume is going to come in so handy for our kids. They love to dress up in old fashioned/western themed gear! I write the character stories for each week, and often, some of storyline gets acted out by adults. We could also use some great costumes for these skits!
The costume I received is a cute dress that looks like a ruffled layer skirt and denim top. There's a faux suede cow print vest on top and a leather belt that closes with a hook/loop fastener. And an adorable felt cowgirl hat tops off the look! Of course everything is elastic-waisted so even though the costumes are sized, it can still fit a range of kids.
Now, since this is a costume, the fabric is a bit thinner than actual clothing, so if girls are going to wear this in the winter, I'd recommend adding a coat and tights at least. But the stitching and seams are solid, so it's good quality costuming that will last through many play sessions!
I love how their costumes give a "complete look" for most of their costumes - accessories and all! That is part of what makes dress up so fun!
If you're looking to do a costume party, play, or just add to your child's pretend play stash, I'd recommend checking CostumeSuperCenter.com out!
